St Loye’s Foundation has won a national award for Financial Management, joining high profile charities, such as Comic Relief, Macmillan Cancer Support and British Red Cross at a prestigious awards ceremony in London. 

The Third Sector Excellence Awards 2009 are 'the awards to win' for the UK’s registered charities and St Loye’s Foundation beat off stiff competition by demonstrating how the charity had turned itself around following severe financial challenges in 2007.



The award was presented to Chairman of Trustees Sue Hobbs by TV comedienne Shappi Khorandi at a Gala Dinner held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on 24th September. Sue Hobbs said: “We are truly delighted with this award.  It is fitting recognition for all the staff and trustees who put in a huge amount of hard work and commitment at a time when the charity was facing severe difficulties.

“This award represents a turning point for us in that we have survived and moved forward fitter and stronger than before.  We are now demonstrating that our new business model of delivering meaningful training to people who are disadvantaged through disability or ill-health is paying real dividends and that we have a solid platform to move on and plan for the future.”

The Third Sector Excellence Awards recognises the most innovative and outstanding achievements within the charity sector and with more than 400 entries in 23 categories, competition was fierce.

Minister of the Third Sector, Angela Smith MP paid tribute to all the award-winners and hailed the UK’s charities as the "best in the world". "We are trying every day to do something to make the world better," she said. "We should be proud that we are doing that."

St Loye’s Foundation’s Chief Executive, Christopher Knee said: “It is a very proud moment for the Foundation and it sends a clear message to donors and grant-making bodies who fund our work that we use our income wisely and prudently with best management practice and transparency in all we do.”

St Loye’s Foundation is hosting a Thanksgiving Service at Exeter Cathedral on 1st Dec to celebrate St Loye’s Day. The evening service will give thanks for the charity’s achievements over the past 70 years and bless the future. St Loye’s Foundation would particularly like to hear from past trainees and their families so that they can be added to the guest list and receive a personal invitation.
