ABSEILING SUPER HEROES
RISE TO THE CHALLENGE FOR ST LOYE’S FOUNDATION!

Exeter city centre shoppers were treated to the sight of superheroes abseiling 140ft down one of the most prominent and controversial buildings in Exeter in September.

40 brave daredevils, many in fancy dress took part in the adrenaline-pumping abseil at the former Debenhams high-rise in Sidwell Street. The sponsored abseil raised over £4,000 for St Loye’s Foundation and also marked the charity’s relocation from its old site at Topsham Road to new city centre headquarters at Brittany House, directly opposite the old Debenhams building.

Money raised from the abseil will help fund welfare projects to enable people with disabilities, learning difficulties and ill-health achieve their work ambitions, gain sustainable employment and build a better life for themselves and their families.

Building owner, Land Securities kindly granted permission for the abseil which was professionally managed by qualified instructors from The Rock Centre, Chudleigh. Mainline Fancy dress in Sidwell Street supported the event by offering abseilers discounts on superhero costumes and prizes for the best fancy dress efforts!

Shop Manager, Ben Norris said: "As a new business in Sidwell Street, Mainline Fancy Dress are both excited and proud to be supporting one of Exeter's charities and raising awareness of the great work St Loye’s Foundation does”.

Event organiser, Kerry Weatherburn, added: “Everybody who goes the extra mile and raises money for St Loye’s Foundation is a superhero in our eyes. This abseil is a tall challenge and our brave superheroes have earnt every penny of their sponsorship."
