When Steve first arrived at St Loye’s, during October 2007, his initial thoughts towards his employment aims included working in an environment that helped people but he wasn’t sure whether this was right for him or what avenues he should take.

St Loye’s worked alongside Steve to create his training programme and Steve started training in ICT for Business.  He successfully completed this, gaining him a Level 1 Diploma in Clait Plus and Level 2 Diploma in New Clait.

As part of his Training Programme, St Loye’s identified Steve’s strengths and work ambitions and arranged for him to attend a two week placement with an organisation that also deals with disabled adults.

This involved Steve handling administration and teaching assistant duties.   The placement confirmed for Steve his interests of working in a supportive type role and he was keen to pursue this further.

With this in mind, the Development Co-ordinator then arranged for Steve to have a two week Work Experience at St Loye’s, shadowing the Support Manager, which brought huge benefits.

Shortly after this, a post became available at St Loye’s for a Support Warden, with which Steve successfully filled.  He has now been in his new post for approximately 5 months,

He said: “My new job has been challenging but very rewarding and I’m glad my potential for support work has been recognised and that I am actually pursuing my interests.  I’m really enjoying my job!”

Steve is now studying an NVQ Level 3 in ‘Promoting Independence’ which will help him further develop as a Support Warden.
