Employers

An employer discussing a project with an ex St Loye's traineeSt Loye's can't do its job without employers.

What we do

St Loye’s provide Support, Personal Development and suitable Training Programmes to disabled people, which enables them to become independent, self reliant and confident enough to find and sustain employment. If you would like to, please find out more about what we do.

St Loye’s is currently helping, on average, 80% of our trainees into paid employment. Whilst we are very pleased with these results, our aim is to help even more disabled people into work and we look forward to working with you to achieve this.

Who we help

St Loye’s help a wide range of people reach their personal potential.  Many have physical disabilities; others may have a history of illness or mental health issues.

By joining St Loye’s and working through their individual training programme, each of them are demonstrating a commitment and determination to find meaningful work and to make a real contribution to their new employers. Please have a look at some of our Success Stories.

How do employers benefit?

We believe helping people into work is a ‘Win Win’ situation for all those involved.  Employers benefit from a wide range of practical and financial considerations:

  • New employees who are trained and qualified, supported by a history of loyalty and stability
  • New employees who have initial training with the view to further training whilst in employment.  This enables employers to tailor further training to meet the demands of the Company as well as developing the employees skills
  • Employers Financial Support/Buddy System
  • Free DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) Advice and Guidance
  • Free Health and Safety Checklist
  • Free Health and Safety, First Aid and Manual Handling training
  • Contribution to Corporate and Social Responsibility Programmes

How does it work?

Through our Person Centred Approach to Employment we provide every trainee with a personally tailored programme.  Their programme encompasses not only the technical training that best suits their Employment Plan, but also provides them with the support and development needed to assist them with any aspect of their life.

As part of the trainees Individual Employment Plan, St Loye’s work closely with Shaw Trust, a partnership organisation to St Loye’s.  Shaw Trust are the largest UK provider of employment services for disabled adults and are well versed in the financial aid and benefits available. To find out more about Shaw Trust please visit their web-site at www.shaw-trust.org.uk

Shaw Trust on behalf of St Loye’s work with you and the trainee.  This may be to set up some work Experience, an Employer Placement and/or to arrange a Practical Interview, depending on what suits you both.  All of this is very favourable with Employers and brings many benefits to both you and the trainee, which often lead to paid employment.

St Loye’s and the trainee will flexibly work with you by adapting the training programme to suit the needs of your company.  You may want the trainee to gain the basic skills and qualifications with the view to us offering further training once employment has commenced or you may prefer to take the trainee on as your employee before any qualifications are gained.

St Loye’s also offer a ‘Buddy System’.  This means that we will work with you, up to six months after the start of employment, to support both you and your new employee.

Many of the employers who have worked with St Loye’s have been very please with their new employee, however, despite the DDA, some employers, may still have concerns around getting involved.  If you have any questions about the DDA and/or would like to find out more about how you can get involved with St Loye’s, please call us on 01392 255428.

Job Successes

"Without St Loye's, I don't know how I would have been able to look for a full-time job."

Heidi was forced to give up full time employment as a super-market assistant when her eyesight deteriorated.  She is registered blind but has sight to use a PC with visual enhancers.  Heidi decided to take the Oxford and Cambridge qualification in Information, Communications and Technology for Business course New Clait Level 1 whilst achieving additional modules in Legal Text Production Level 2 Distinction and Text Production Level 1.

"St Loyes has given me the confidence to get back into work".

"I had no previous experience of a college dealing with disabled people so didn't know what to expect. I needn't have worried, it was excellent and I was supported all the way through."

"As I studied I found my confidence slowly returning.  I was supported by the Action for Blind People charity and St Loye's helped with structuring interviews and approaching prospective employers.  I was let down by one employer over a work placement but soon found a job as a full-time Telephone Researcher with a local Company.  I have a wonderful employer and I really enjoy my job."

Quote from Heidi’s Employer:

"Heidi has made excellent progress since she joined the BPA Team in November 2006. She has absorbed all the knowledge required for her job very quickly and continues to delight us with her results and the ownership she demonstrates in her approach. She has marvellous interpersonal skills which make her a joy to be around. Sky keeps us entertained with her 'party tricks' and is very popular in the office."
