Terry’s Story

Job: 6 month Maintenance post, covering a variety of areas such as doors and locks, carpentry and gardening.

Terry’s story is one of overcoming a lack of confidence and learning disabilities to retrain for a job he really wants to do and overcoming a “very tough time” in his life.

After more than a year without work, Terry was pointed in the direction of St Loye’s by his DEA in Northampton and undertook a residential course in Exeter training to be a locksmith supported by a computer skills course.

Terry’s newly acquired skills landed him a six month temporary post on the maintenance team at Richmond Care Homes in Northampton covering a wide range of maintenance tasks including doors, locks and associated hardware, carpentry and gardening.  He found the challenge of problem-solving and working with a team invaluable experience.

40 year-old Terry said: “I came to St Loye’s for assistance and guidance due to my lack of confidence and learning disability.  I received truly exceptional training and support with excellent and ongoing post-training support including helping me with my search for a job.

“I spent only a short time at St Loye’s but the highlights were meeting the team and other residents, being made to feel so welcome and joining in all the activities that St Loye’s had organised.”
